SimpleDoubleDeux Bed slides for two

Daniel Jauslin, a principal in Drexler Guinand Jauslin Architects in Zurich, was space-starved in his guest room (like most of us usually are). Needing a bed in a 9-by-12-foot guest room that could fit in two, he hopped on to the idea of SimpleDoubleDeux Bed. The bed itself is novel and simple. It consists of two molded plywood platforms that interlock. When these are in locked state, they form a single bed, but wait till you slide one of them. Then, the SimpleDoubleDeux Bed has enough room to fit in two. The idea and design are so well thought out and executed that SimpleDoubleDeux Bed won the top furniture award in I.D. magazine’s annual design review this year; no mean feat considering that over 2,000 entries were in the hunt. Juslin’s selling it here for $3,485 and the latex mattresses (pic after jump) would cost additional $1,878. Two beds in the space of one, now that’s optimal utilization.
