Chop challenge: Shift cutting block hastens cooking
Asmita | Oct 8 2008

The cool and innovative Shift cutting block is a genuinely effective new kitchen tool that promises to optimize work flow in food preparation and make our efforts in the kitchen more efficient. The design comprises of two cutting boards, a stand, and two dishes, which combine together to hasten the preparation process. The height-adjustable stand allows users to set the cutting board to the user’s desired height. The chopped goods and waste can be quickly separated and shoved directly onto the plates further enhancing work flow.

What’s different?
The design concept basically aims at making the food preparation process swifter and features two identical cutting boards that can be used separately. The lower flipped top-down cutting board can be easily slid into the slot and as a drawer for the dishes, as a tray or even as an additional chopping board.

Price and availability
The concept was created for Swiss kitchenware manufacturers Kuhn Rikon by student designer Mario Weiss and is not commercially available yet.

Better options
Big Block high density polyethylene chopping board
Crafted in high density polyethylene, Big Block is the toughest plastic chopping board on the market. Featuring four non slip silicone feet, the dishwasher safe cutting board is produced in accordance with CE and BGA standards and prevents the spread of germs much better than compared to regular wooden boards.

Chop 2 Pot Boards
A collaborative effort of designers Joseph Joseph and Mark Sanders, the Chop 2 Pot board incorporates the latest technology in polypropylene living hinges allowing the handle of the board to fold into a chute to help guide diced and chopped food directly into a pot or dish.
