Foot Mat Activated Night Light is a boon for nocturnal risers
Ruchi Agarwal | Aug 19 2008

Even after having lived in the same grid of my house for 20 years, there are many occasions when I have returned to my bed in the night with a bumped head or a swollen toe. Having seen the Wireless Foot Mat Activated Night Light (big name comes with sensible functionality-modified Spidey Punch Line) I got to applaud the guys at Hammacher Schlemmer. Keeping it next to my bed means my night trips to kitchen or the bathroom would end on a peaceful note.

So how does this foot mat actually double as a knight in shining armor? The wireless foot mat has an embedded LED which detects your weight when you step on it and lights up the surroundings. A 433MHz wireless signal will turn on each remote light (up to four) and reach lengths of 100 feet. With a tap of your foot, the lights would dim and eventually turn off. It will need 3 AA batteries to juice up each of the night lights. The price tag of $60 is pretty rational and I have my vote for anything that keeps head and toe injuries at a bay! It ships with a floor mat and two night lights.

I haven’t bumped my head as yet :P, but yes, this can be quite helpful in our house too. Just hope the LED is bright enough to see thru half open (or closed) eye!

Hey Manish, its indeed a helpful device.. i think LED would be bright enough, but in case i sleep alone, i myt not remember on which side of the bed is the foot mat lying :P

There you are, another issue that the inventors should think of :)

Hehe.. yeah... they got to devices that can tackle my dodo-like head! ;)
