Food Prep Board by Oli Sparrow makes cooking easy for the disabled
Radhika | Aug 12 2008

I want you to try out an experiment for me; tie one of you hands to your body and then cook a gourmet meal using just one limb. Tough, right? Severe disability and limited use of your hands can really affect the way you move around the kitchen. However, this is one the place that each person tries to modify to suit his or her needs. With due respect to all disabled people, this experiment is a must to realize how difficult menial chores are for them and to appreciate the Food Prep Board concept. Designer Oli Sparrow was working at Peta [UK] Ltd., when he designed this board. Mundane things like opening jars and bottles can be performed by clamping the object to the board. Even chopping food becomes easier thanks to the clamp. The food skewers attached are helpful for peeling potatoes but the self-contained peeler, slicer and catcher dish make assembling of ingredients efficient. Bringing self reliance in the kitchen in a very dignified way, this Food Prep Board concept should become a reality.

Radhika, this is perhaps the first invention I have seen that helps disabled people to cook. Honestly, it just never occurred to me how difficult it must be for a disabled person to cook.

Exactly my thoughts when i saw this board first. Although it was in the papers recently how this man has only 2 feet from birth and no hands and yet enjoys marital bliss, cooking painting etc. using his feet! amazing people!!

Reminds me of a video of lady with just upper half of her body who is cleverly running her house and raising a child all by her self. Such a thing will be a boon to such folks
